Independent Study Platform Disclaimer
BC Driving Test Practice is an independent study aid created to help learners prepare for the BC ICBC knowledge test. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to ICBC (Insurance Corporation of British Columbia) or the Government of British Columbia in any way. All questions are written by independent driving instructors and are based on publicly available BC driving laws and handbook information.
1. Who We Are
BC Driving Test Practice is an independent online study platform operated to help BC residents prepare for the ICBC knowledge test. Our contact email is info@bcdrivingtestpractice.ca.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information: When you register, we collect your name and email address.
- Practice data: We record which questions you answer, whether your answers are correct, and your session scores so we can show you your progress.
- Anonymous usage data: For non-logged-in users, we generate an anonymous browser fingerprint (stored only in your browser's local storage) to track answer popularity across users. No personal information is attached to this fingerprint.
- Technical data: Standard server logs including IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This is used for security and performance purposes only.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide you with personalised study progress tracking
- To identify your weak areas and power the Challenge Bank feature
- To send optional newsletter tips (only if you subscribe)
- To improve our question bank and platform based on aggregate usage patterns
- To investigate and respond to question reports submitted via the platform
We do not sell your personal information to any third party.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may process your data:
- Supabase: Our database and authentication provider. Your email and progress data are stored on Supabase's servers. See Supabase Privacy Policy.
- OpenAI: If you use the AI Study Assistant (Pro feature), your question context and messages are sent to OpenAI's API to generate responses. We do not send your name or email to OpenAI. See OpenAI Privacy Policy.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
We use browser local storage (not cookies) to save your practice settings and anonymous fingerprint. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or any ad-tracking technologies.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days. Anonymous usage data (e.g., answer popularity counts) is not linked to your identity and may be retained indefinitely.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Opt out of newsletter emails at any time via the unsubscribe link

8. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure password hashing, and row-level security on our database. While we take reasonable precautions, no online service can guarantee complete security.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of significant changes by email. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
