What Is the ICBC Knowledge Test?

The ICBC knowledge test is a written multiple-choice exam required to obtain your Class 7 Learner's Licence (L) in British Columbia. The test consists of 50 questions drawn from the official ICBC Learn to Drive Smart guide, covering road signs, rules of the road, speed limits, intersections, parking, and safe driving practices.

You have 45 minutes to complete the exam and must answer at least 40 out of 50 questions correctly -- an 80% passing score -- to earn your learner's licence. The test is administered at any ICBC driver licensing office across BC, and you can retake it as many times as needed if you do not pass.

Our mock exam is designed to replicate the real ICBC test experience as closely as possible: the same number of questions, the same 45-minute time limit, and questions drawn from all 8 ICBC topic categories.

Tips for Passing the ICBC Knowledge Test on Your First Try

  • Read the Learn to Drive Smart guide: Every question on the ICBC test comes directly from this official handbook.
  • Focus on road signs: Road signs account for roughly 25-30% of the test.
  • Practice under timed conditions: The 45-minute limit can feel tight when you are nervous.
  • Review every wrong answer: Understanding why an answer is wrong is more valuable than just knowing the right answer.
  • Pay attention to speed limits: Speed limit questions are commonly missed. Review them carefully.
